Project 5

Topic: Will be doing various studies and creating pieces using white charcoal
Thinking skill: Evaluating

artists of influence - @aquilac.art &
Pinterest charcoal tag

reflection - I learned a lot doing these. This medium is interesting to work with and is very similar to the black charcoal as well. It was cool putting in just highlights to make an image instead of lights and dark or just dark. I recommend using this medium.

Here I have the first attempt and my revision that I started yesterday when I noticed the first version looked really bad. I am (clearly) not done painting yet. To help learn about painting faces, I watched a video of A guy painting Bob Ross.

Planning for piece 1

For my first piece I've chosen to paint my friend, Cheyenne, into a 17th century painting. I've asked each person several questions like What is your passion?, What is your heritage?, And what is your favorite time period/is there a certain time period throughout history that you can identify with? For Cheyenne she said one of her passions is 17th century reenactment. This made it easier for me to choose the art style and find inspiration since she already had a time period that resonates with her. In this post I've also included pictures of some of the 17th century paintings I looked at to get inspiration. Also in this post I've included a rough sketch. I included the painting "Girl With A Pearl Earring" because it is 17th century, and I think the piece has a lot of personality. Which is what I'm going for.

Proposal Idea

Thinking skill:

"Comparing contrasting"-
Identifying and explaining the similarities and/or differences between two or more people, problems, situations, processes, ideas, etc. In this I would also be learning how to paint and draw people better, and about different styles of art through the past and present times.
Idea:
Painting friends/people from current times in different historical periods through costumes and settings. Each person illustrated in an era and costume that is or could be their passion like dancing, singing, acting, etc. This would fit into the category of comparing and contrasting because I would be comparing and contrasting different art styles through personality and art. I've also always wanted to get better at painting people and faces, so this would be a good learning opportunity.

About Me

    • My name is Cassie and I am a senior at CYHS. In my spare time I work part time at Boscov's and am involved in marching band, dance, orchestra, and enjoy acting in plays/musicals. After I graduate in the fall I plan to attend a college (I'm still not sure which one yet)
    • I took another art class because I enjoy having at least one class a day where I can be creative and do something I enjoy for a change. Overall my goal is to make some great art and become a better artist.
